Some tips I’ve encountered along the way as a Reiki Master and practitioner that I would love to share with those of you who practice reiki or are thinking of learning:
1. Ground yourself every day, even if you only have 5 minutes to spare. Sit in silence and meditate, pray, do yoga, or even better, perform reiki on yourself. A clear mind and body are essential in the energy flow between you and your client. And, they deserve you at your highest and best.
2. Avoid caffeine, meat, and sugary foods before working with a client. These foods have chemicals that can slow down the energy flow. Or, even better, adopt a vegetarian diet. Since doing so, my sessions have moved to another level.
3. Laugh! Be real, be yourself! Sometimes “healers” can get so darn serious about this stuff they can scare people away. Of course, you want to be professional and knowledgable, but you are human, too. So, gain some rapport with your client, and maybe even share a giggle.
4. Set an intention before you begin working with your client. It can be something simple, like, that you want he or she to feel better, or more specific, but just state something. I also give clients the opportunity to place an intention that they can keep to themselves, or share with me.
5. Expect nothing, yet be prepared for miracles to occur. And, when they do occur (because they WILL, trust me) take a breath, cry, laugh, run around the block, do whatever you need to, but be filled with gratitude and give a big “Thank You” to the universe. Bask in this feeling of unbelievable joy for a bit and then move on.
6. Be open to messages from your guides, and if it feels right, share with your client. More often than not, they will be glad that you did.
7. Keep everything confidential. People will tell you their deepest secrets and trust is huge when working with energy. I’ve been told some really juicy tales that I will take to my grave out of respect for my clients and the work itself.
8. Be prepared for your clients to teach you more than you thought a person could ever teach you. And, let them know this, because often times they have no idea and will gush on and on about their experience, not realizing that they have been a gift to you as well. When this happens, be grateful and send another giant “Thank You” to the universe.
9. If you find yourself a Reiki Master at the Las Vegas Recovery Center and a Reiki Teacher, send the biggest, loudest “Thank You” to the universe and then move on.
